Individual needs vary significantly. It is essential to understand your goals when collaborating with a Colon Therapist. However, if you have a long-standing issue with constipation and wish to establish regular daily bowel movements for optimal health, more extensive treatment will likely be necessary. This may involve not only a series of colonics but also potential adjustments to your diet, exercise routine, and mindset. Depending on your specific goals, if a series of treatments is warranted, it is advisable to undergo at least six sessions, ideally 2-4 times a year or during seasonal transitions. Initially, your first two sessions should be spaced a few days apart—such as both occurring within the first week— followed by weekly sessions until the series is complete. Your therapist will be able to outline a tailored treatment plan following your initial appointment.

Colonics tend to be less stressful both mentally and physically, yielding more significant results when performed by trained professionals, and are generally gentler than enemas. If you are seeking relief from constipation, a colonic is a more effective option compared to laxatives. It is important to avoid laxatives, as their effects can be transmitted to your baby through breast milk.
  • Will one Colonic completely empty the Colon?
It is quite rare! Firstly, many individuals have significant amounts of impacted fecal matter (hardened, rubbery, or wall-like substances) within their colons, necessitating considerable effort for removal. Additionally, there is a nuanced learning curve associated with undergoing colonics. As you gain a deeper understanding of the sensations in your abdomen and your body adapts to the cleansing process, you become more capable of engaging in it, leading to the release of greater amounts of material. While a single colonic can eliminate some of the stagnant waste in the colon, subsequent sessions tend to yield even more results. The number of sessions you choose to pursue will ultimately depend on your personal goals.
  • Will I lose weight?
Eliminating waste from the body enhances metabolic efficiency. By becoming more aware of the foods you consume and how your body processes them, you can make more informed choices. Many clients have reported improvements in their diet and exercise routines after beginning colon hydrotherapy. • Why not consider using enemas, suppositories, or laxatives as alternatives?
Enemas generally do not provide the same level of thoroughness as a colonic. At Advance Detox Center, you will be assisted by a certified professional who ensures a more comfortable and effective experience. Both suppositories and laxatives can irritate the colon, even when using herbal options. In contrast, colonics promote a natural stimulation of the colon muscles, aiding in the establishment of regular bowel movements. Laxatives, on the other hand, can lead to spasms in the colon due to their irritating effects.
  • Will I lose valuable nutrients during Colonics
Colonics have been shown to promote the growth of beneficial intestinal flora by removing decayed material from the large intestine, even though colon irrigation may only partially reach this area. Beneficial bacteria thrive in a clean environment, free from putrefaction and harmful bacteria. This is evident in newborns, whose intestines quickly develop healthy flora. By regularly cleansing the intestines, the environment becomes more conducive for these beneficial microorganisms to multiply. Additionally, a clean intestinal environment enhances the absorption of essential nutrients compared to a contaminated one.
  • Do you recommend supplements after a Colonic session?
Every client presents unique requirements, and following a session, we may recommend supplements that could benefit you and your colon. Potential products we might suggest include fiber, probiotics, and digestive enzymes. If you are undergoing a cleanse or experiencing particular constipation challenges, we may advise the temporary use of herbs to aid in promoting movement. Some clients may already be using suitable supplements, while others may not require any additional supplementation.
  • Do Colonics deplete the electrolytes in my body?
Electrolytes, primarily consisting of sodium and potassium salts, are essential minerals in the body that help maintain the appropriate electrical charge and pH balance across various organs. Each tissue, organ, and body cavity requires a specific ratio of these minerals to sustain the necessary pH levels. For instance, the stomach is designed to maintain an acidic pH, while the duodenum, the initial segment of the small intestine, should be alkaline to facilitate effective digestion. Disruption of this balance can lead to digestive issues. In the colon, the pH balance is typically neutral, ideally leaning slightly acidic, as digestion does not occur there. Instead, the colon's primary role is to reabsorb fluids from the unformed stool received from the small intestine. Once the fluid is reabsorbed and stool is formed, the colon transports it to the rectum for elimination. The majority of what is expelled during a colonic procedure consists of formed stool, which has already had its fluids and electrolytes extracted, resulting in minimal loss that the body can easily replenish through food and fluid intake.
  • Will a Colonic make me constipated or give me diarrhea?
After a colonic hydrotherapy session, it's normal for bowel movements to vary. If there's a full release during the session, you might not have a bowel movement the next day due to the colon being emptied of most solid waste. This doesn't indicate constipation. Conversely, if the release during the session is incomplete, you may experience additional bowel movements later as residual water is expelled. Colonic hydrotherapy aims to cleanse the colon of waste material, including impacted feces, dead cellular tissue, mucous, and potential parasites. Proponents believe that removing this waste can alleviate issues like fatigue, poor nutrient absorption, and constipation. However, it's important to note that scientific evidence supporting these claims is limited, and the procedure carries potential risks. Always consult a healthcare professional before undergoing this treatment. Sometimes, if there is a full release during your session, you may not have a bowel movement the next day, as we have emptied your colon of most solid waste. This doesn't mean that you are constipated. On the other hand, if you do not fully release during a session, there may be residual water in your colon that you may release later in the day.
  • Do Colonics deplete the intestinal flora and essential nutrients?
Colonics are generally considered safe and do not have significant side effects. However, individuals may experience certain symptoms as their bodies detoxify. For instance, some may feel a mix of nausea and urgency, reminiscent of the sensation before a significant bowel movement, often accompanied by cold sweats. Following this, many report a profound sense of relief. In cases of high toxicity, similar feelings may arise during treatment. Pain during a colonic is uncommon and typically stems from tension or resistance. A trained colon therapist can help alleviate discomfort and create a more relaxing experience. Most clients find colonics enjoyable, often appreciating the refreshing sensation of feeling lighter and cleaner afterward. Occasionally, the colon may contract suddenly, leading to the rapid expulsion of liquid and waste, which can feel like cramping or gas and may prompt a strong urge to use the restroom. Such instances are usually brief and manageable.
  • If I have an excessive amount of Colonics, will the colon cease to function independently? Are Colonics addictive?
Colonics provide a toning effect on the colon by stimulating its muscles and reinforcing their natural function. They are not physically habit-forming, meaning that your body will not develop a dependence on them for elimination.
  • Can I work after a treatment?
Certainly. In general, Colon Hydrotherapy is unlikely to disrupt your planned activities for the day. However, individual responses can vary based on the level of toxins present in your body. If you are undergoing detoxification during the colonics, you might experience increased fatigue as your body eliminates these toxins. Nevertheless, many clients often report feeling revitalized and full of energy afterward.
  • Should I see my doctor before having Colon Hydrotherapy?
It is advisable to seek guidance from your physician, although a medical examination is not mandatory. Colon Hydrotherapy is considered safer than home enemas, and at Coastal Colonics we utilize a state-of-the-art, approved medical device that is administered by a certified colon therapist from C-ACT. However, individuals with specific medical conditions should refrain from undergoing Colon Hydrotherapy. For these reasons it is essential to complete in full all intake from information. If your medical condition changes during your colonic protocol, (in clinic), inform your therapist immediately. If you are home, and your medical condition changes, seek medical treatment immediately. Detailed notes on your colonics treatments are available for your medical doctor, your written consent will be required.
